If Jesus really was to make God's actual name (YHWH), then teaching people how to pray would have been the perfect place to do it. However, He did not tell people to pray to Jehovah. He told them to pray to their Father.

And you are right, sir82, the Jews would have stoned Him for using the name. And yet, that was never a problem that they had with Jesus. They accused Him of being a drunkard and glutton and associating with those same types. They accused Him of claiming to be equal to God. But they never had an issue with him using God's name.

I believe the reason Jesus did not use the OT name of God was because that was no longer to be the focus. Phill 2:9 shows this. It says: "Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name". If He has a name above EVERY other name, that would be above even the name "Jehovah".

When did he use God's name? I thought he always called God "Father", not "Jehovah". In fact when using the word "name" as in "Let your name be sanctified", he never said Jehovah. The word name can have many meanings, one of which is "Power" or "Authority". This is true in Acts 4:7 where it says: "They had Peter and John brought before them and began to question them: "By what power or what name did you do this?""

Also, notice the painting on page 12. (I will upload it when I get a chance). It portrays Jesus with wings like an angel. I would like to find a single place in the Bible that describes Jesus in the way that it presents it here...

i have been thinking about the " need" for an organisation for xians... i mean the ee went on his merry way back to candace in ethiopia, a long way from the governing body of jerusalem and the effect of paul's letters so he must have done his worhsipping from a distance and without the "benefit" of the governing body's sage advice..... .

also another thing if i were on the "gb" of the first century i would be extremely miffed that paul was the one being inspired to write the fundamental doctrines of christianity, not me or my fellow older men.

The Ethiopian Eunuch stands in contrast to much of what the WTS teaches today. Why did he not have to study for 6 months to a year out of a Apostle approved book, be regular in field service as an unbaptized publisher, and then go over 100 questions with an elder before he was baptized? Nope, he came to appreciate the reality of Jesus and was immediately baptized. The WTS has no scriptural basis to stand on in regards to their policies about baptism.

i think it's about time this get updated so more folks know the other meaning of t.t.a.t.t.

ttatt is an acronym for "the thing around the thing.".

this term, first known to be used by neal thomison around 1998, refers to the meta issues which surround the topic in question.. in designing software, creating art or negotiating contracts often the context and implications of the topic on the history and interrelationships at play is often as significant, if not more significant, that the content of the topic itself.. .

Interesting responses, Elephant. However, the Watchtower's own words contradict what you say.

1. Have they ever taught anything that was scripturally incorrect? Your response is fasinating. I don't think I've ever met a JW that would say this. Most will acknowledge that the Watchtower has taught MANY things that were incorrect and then had to change them later. Was this just dishonesty on your part, or do you truly believe that they have never taught the wrong thing? I appeal to their previous celebration of Christmas. Of course this is not scripturally wrong, but JWs believe it is. How bout the teaching that Jesus first came in 1799 or 1874?

2. Same response. If you go back and see what they USED to teach and had to change it, isn't there a chance (no matter how slight...) that they could be teaching something wrong now?

3. In a letter to the Circuit Overseers and Body of Elders, the Watchtower said that to be df'd for apostasy, you don't have to speak about or tell others about your views. All it takes is to BELIEVE them. If you BELIEVE that the Watchtower is wrong on something, that is enough to get you df'd. The letter was recently posted on this site. As soon as I find it, I will repost so you can see proof. Edit: See the letter at the bottom of this post.

4. No no no. You do not introduce yourselves as Christians. If someone asks if you are, you will say yes. But your title is "Jehovah's Witnesses". There is no precident of this in the Bible. No one called themselves by this name. This was a name fabricated out of thin air by Rutherford.

5. The scriptures says that there is NO other name greater than Jesus. His name is above all other names (including Jehovah). By no other name can we be saved (including Jehovah). So again, why the focus on Jehovah and not Jesus? Why downgrade him to an angel? Why, when at the last convention, did I count the name Jehovah said 250 times in a single day, and Jesus name mentioned 8 times?

6. You miss the point. God said He created ALL BY HIMSELF. Not WITH Jesus. Read the verse again (and the context).

7. My definition of spirit does not matter. The Watchtower's is what is in question. They say the spirit ceases to exist after someone stops breathing. Then why did Stephen ask for Jesus to receive his spirit after he died if it wouldn't exist anymore?

8,9,10: I'll be interested to see what your answers are after you "go home and do some research and come back with the answer" (JW speak for, see what the Watchtower says about it, memorize it, and relate it back to me.
